Mrs. Silva’s Story

Hi, my name is Samara Silva. I started working for Santiago Canyon College as an Instructional Assistant in January of 1999.  I began teaching the evening Reading class in the fall of 2001.  These years also mark the births of my two children. My daughter Leah was born in 1999 and my son Philip was born in 2001.  As you continue through the program you might meet my husband, Phil, who also works for the school.  I enjoy working for Santiago Canyon College very much.  The faculty and staff are friendly and supportive, and it is a privilege to work with such hard working and committed students.

Claudia’s Story

Hello, my name is Claudia. It is my pleasure to be working in the Adult Basic Education (ABE) and Reading classes offered at Orange Education Center (OEC). I am inspired by the hard-working students that attend OEC everyday. It is great to know that there are so many people trying to better themselves everyday. Hard work and persistence helped me obtain a bachelor’s degree in math from California State University, Fullerton. A bit more about me is that I enjoy yoga, hiking and bicycling. I also like to travel and eat new and different foods.

Mrs. Shields

Hi, I am Mrs. Shields. I have been working in Adult Basic Education and High School Subjects for more than five years. I enjoy my job. The students are hardworking, dedicated and motivated. It is a pleasure to come to work everyday. I live in Huntington Beach with my husband, son, and daughter. We love going in the ocean. I also enjoy surfing, taking my dog, Max, for a walk, and going out to dinner.

Mrs. Rincon

My name is Jennifer Rincon.  I have been a teacher with Rancho Santiago Community College District since 1992 when I started teaching ESL at Centennial Education Center in Santa Ana.  I have been in the Reading/High School Subjects department at the Orange Education Center program since 1994.  I have a degree in Speech Communication from CSU Long Beach and a teaching credential from Chapman University.  I also teach part-time in Garden Grove Unified School District at Lincoln Education Center in the diploma program.  Before I became an adult education teacher, I taught elementary school for a couple of years.  I have three children.  Kevin (18) is now a student at Santiago Canyon College and went to El Modena High School.  My younger children, Chris (12) and Julia (7), both attend McPherson Magnet School in Orange.  My husband, Alfonso, is a business analyst.  Our family loves soccer and we spend a lot of time at games.  My husband also coaches our children’s teams.  We have a sweet golden retriever, Kelly, and a mean cat, Mia.  We love living in Orange and being part of this special community.  Being a teacher at the Orange Education Center is a very gratifying job.  I meet so many wonderful, hard-working students!  It is a pleasure to work at such a great school.
